Typhoon Self-Titled (2005) LP

The rumored first record.

Dec 22, 2025
∙ Paid

Dear Reader,

On this day twenty years ago we released our first record. It was self-titled and self-released—we burned maybe a hundred CDs or so—and in the intervening years it has become almost impossible to find. It’s not on any streaming services and we never pressed any vinyl.

Until now.

To mark the occasion, we’re doing a limited run (500 LPs) of our 2005 self-titled record with a beautiful new album design by our old pal Rick Delucco. The vinyl will be first available at our Portland shows in January and afterward we’ll be releasing a small batch online at our merch store.

We were teenagers when we made this thing. Half of us had just graduated high school and we were fighting against the entropy threatening our various garage bands by pooling our efforts. I had recently finished Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and was obsessed with putting out my masterwork before I turned twenty.

A masterwork this is not. But it is (I think) an interesting time capsule and, for longtime Typhoon listeners, it’s got the seeds of what would come later: arch-concept, apocalyptic themes, strings and horns and big, messy singalongs.

So join us for the Portland shows or, for those of you in the far flung reaches of our listenership, stay tuned for when the LPs go up on our website.

For a long time I felt about this record as one would about an awkward home video: kind of embarrassed. But now—old softy that I’ve become—I’m grateful. None of the rest would have happened if we hadn’t made this thing.

P.S. In other exciting news, we have a more dear friends joining the festivities in January!

First, we’ve got Matt Dorrien opening the evening on Friday 1/23. Matt’s one of Portland’s finest songwriters and man can he tickle those ivories. He’s been one of our favorites since we toured together back in 2018. Check out his excellent (and seasonally appropriate) Christmas in L.A.

Then on Saturday, My Body will be kicking things off. Jordan Bagnall is one of my oldest friends and she happens to be the most brilliant musician I know. Her 2022 release I’m the Only Little Light You’ll Need is a true masterpiece and—if you’re able to drop everything you’re doing, find a dark room and a pair of headphones—you should listen to it immediately. Jordie is also one of the original members of Typhoon so it’s only right that she rings in the big 2-0 with us.
