The time has finally come. Our original LP from 2005 (I’m not blushing at all!) is now available on vinyl at our merch store.

This is the only pressing of this record and there are only a couple hundred left from the anniversary shows, so supplies are limited.

We were 16-19 years old when we made this thing and, for a long time, I was more than a little embarrassed. But now, viewed through the hazy mist of middle age and its attendant nostalgia, well, I think it’s kind of neat that a bunch of teenagers from Salem, Oregon got together to make a gregorian-core concept record.

This thing won’t be on streaming services anytime soon, but if you buy a copy of the LP you’ll receive a hi-resolution digital download so you can listen to on itunes or whatever other archaic non-streaming software still exists.

We ask in the spirit of fairness (and also shipping costs) to limit your order to five LPs. Bandcamp doesn’t have order limits, but if we see anyone going beyond that reasonable number we’ll have to cancel and refund the order.

In other news, we’re playing an all-ages, family friendly show at Topaz Farm in Portland on September 4th, so if you missed the birthday shows or you just can’t get enough typhoon time in your life, come on out. It’s an early evening engagement, so you should be able to catch all the typhoon babies side-stage doing that funny baby dance babies do. You know the one.

We’re beaming over the bill for these shows.

On Friday, we’ll be joined by the one and only Black Belt Eagle Scout. We’ve been playing shows with Katherine Paul since way back. I hopped on the diehard fan bus after seeing her phenomenal band, Forest Park, back in 2012 and never got off. (Fun fact: Shannon and Ryan from Typhoon played on their excellent EP.)

Since then Katherine has released several brilliant records as BBES. She is such a special songwriter and human being.

On Saturday, we’ll be joined by the ineffable Lost Lander.

I was bartending at Mississippi Studios in 2012 when heard this song for the first time. I remember being pissed I didn’t write it.

Later that year we got to go on a tour with these lovely people and have been dear buds ever since. What really sealed it was we were all invited to a house party after one of our shows—the house had a bunch of musical gear in the basement that we promptly commandeered to form a Portland supergroup, playing mostly Weezer covers from memory and driving most of the party guests from the party. (If any of you, my dear readers, can tell me what city this was, you will be rewarded modestly.)

We’ve also got a couple other special guests in the works but those are under wraps for now. Stay tuned to this channel—all will become clear in the fullness of time.

Twenty years ago a bunch of teenagers from Salem, Oregon played a show at the Clinton Street Theater in southeast Portland. They were all between the ages of sixteen and nineteen, unkempt and dressed in plaids and earth-tones. The songs were murder ballads and gregorian chants and sea shanties. One song featured the dropping of a giant nautical chain repeatedly. Afterward, more than one audience member commented that the whole thing reminded them of Lord of the Flies.

Back then the band was known for having a lot of people in it and for being very young. Now? The band still has a lot of people in it.

In January, Typhoon will be celebrating its twentieth birthday and you’re invited. Join us for two nights of music, merrymaking and many happy returns. The whole gang will be there and each night we’ll be playing a unique set from the extended typhoon discography (including songs we’ve never played live before!). Best of all, we’ll be joined for the occasion by some of our nearest and dearest buds.

Dear Reader,

It started years ago when our violinist Jen moved to Astoria to start a family. Since then about a quarter of our band has relocated to the Oregon coast. Shannon and Dave now call Rockaway Beach their home and, with that, comes certain civic responsibilities, community commitments, etc.

So now that you have the deep background, I am pleased to announce that we’ll be playing the Rockaway Beach Music Festival on August 16th, 2025, a fundraiser event for the Neah-Kah-Nie High School music department. Arts are receding from public education faster than the icecaps so I don’t need to harp on why this sort of thing is important. Not to you, my dear reader.
